lost.. and finding

where ancient temples stand in quiet majesty
the sun blazes and burns
and tyres kick up dust and sand
children, who should be enjoying their innocence, hawk their wares relentlessly
a weariness in their big brown eyes
a longing to simple be, just a child

cows and horses graze lazily on the dry brown-green grass
and dragonflies dance excitedly above the ponds
safforn clad monks meditate
dishing out teachings in the incense filled shrines
to the willing person, who takes a breather from the hustle bustle of everyday life

civilisations and history lost
to the ravages of time, war and poverty
Bayon, Angkor Wat and Ta Phrom
the pride and honor of the ancient kings
now a shadow of its glorious pasts
spectacular detailed stone cravings and sculptures
broken, ruined and dull

much has already been lost
n now they are trying to restore
the past that makes the present and future
we can only hope that careless feet do not trample the stones further
that what's gone can be found
